Mponela Police Station has called on members of the public to seek help whenever they experience emotional or personal distress, stressing that no one should face hardship alone.
The appeal follows the death of 38-year-old nurse Emmanuel Sikalamwa, who recently took his own life after being dismissed from his job at Madisi Mission Hospital. Police say the incident has underscored the need for communities to speak up and access available support services.
Mponela Police spokesperson Sergeant Macpatson Msadala said individuals dealing with stressful or overwhelming situations should not hesitate to approach the Police Victim Support Unit. He emphasized that reaching out for assistance can prevent crises and save lives.
According to police, Sikalamwa’s brother reported that although Emmanuel had appeared determined to rebuild his life after losing his job, the emotional strain eventually became too heavy. He was found dead at the Kamphenga Community Secondary School woodlot on December 1, 2025, in Dowa District.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant, check on one another, and seek professional help whenever necessary.
