Parliament has today passed the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 2 of 2025, tabled by Hon. Emmanuel Chambulanyina Jere, Member of Parliament for Mzimba South Constituency.
The Bill establishes the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in the Constitution, outlining its purposes, governance framework, and guiding principles for management and utilisation.
Lawmakers from both sides of the House voted unanimously in favor of the Bill, with 199 members supporting it, none opposing, and 25 absent.
In a related development, Member of Parliament for Zomba City North, Hon. Bester Awali, presented a petition to the House today on behalf of concerned citizens.
The petition seeks to allow the use of indigenous languages in Parliament and has since been referred to the Legal Affairs Committee.
