RFA ANNOUNCES 100 PERCENT TOLL-GATE FEE INCREASE

The Roads Fund Administration (RFA) has announced a 100 percent increase in toll-gate fees for most vehicle categories across the country.

According to the announcement, the revised toll fees will come into effect on 01 January 2026, marking a significant adjustment in road usage charges.

Under the new structure, light motor vehicles and pickup trucks will now be required to pay K2,000, up from the current K1,000.

Minibus operators have also been affected by the adjustment, with toll fees increasing from K2,000 to K3,000 per passage.

Vehicles carrying between 17 and 31 passengers will see their toll fees doubled from K4,000 to K8,000.

Operators of vehicles carrying abnormal loads will now be required to pay K40,000, an increase from the previous K20,000.

The RFA noted that the country currently operates two toll gates, Chingeni and Kalinyeke, both located along the M1 road.

The authority has not yet detailed mitigation measures but maintains that the adjustment is necessary to support road maintenance and infrastructure development.
