SAUDI ARABIA RENEWS COMMITMENT TO SUPPORT MALAWI’S ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Saudi Arabia has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Malawi’s economic recovery and long-term development efforts.

The assurance was made by Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Minister of Finance for Macro-Fiscal Policies and International Relations, Abdullah Bin Zara, during a meeting with Malawi’s Minister of Finance, Joseph Mwanamvekha.

The meeting took place on 17 December 2025, where Mwanamvekha presented Malawi’s current food insecurity situation.

According to the Malawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) report, more than four million Malawians are in urgent need of food assistance.

In response, Bin Zara announced that Saudi Arabia will provide budgetary support alongside humanitarian assistance through the King Salman Foundation.

He noted that the support is aimed at easing Malawi’s immediate humanitarian challenges while contributing to economic stabilization.

Mwanamvekha’s visit to Saudi Arabia is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Malawi and Gulf nations.

The engagements are focused on macro-economic stabilization, infrastructure development, healthcare, and expanded investment opportunities.

During the visit, Mwanamvekha is also expected to hold talks with Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company (ADQ) Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Mansour Al Mulla.
