SUPREME COURT OF APPEAL ADJOURNS MZIMBA HORA ELECTION APPEAL

A nine-judge panel of the Supreme Court of Appeal has adjourned the hearing of an election appeal relating to the Mzimba Hora Constituency to 21 January 2026.

The adjournment was granted to allow the appellant, Henry Mumba, additional time to adequately prepare and present his case before the court.

The matter is being heard under Electoral Petition Number 62 of 2025, titled Henry Mumba v Malawi Electoral Commission and Martha Munthali.

In the appeal, Mumba is challenging the legality of the election results that declared Martha Munthali as the duly elected Member of Parliament for the constituency.

He alleges that the electoral process was marred by widespread irregularities, including procedural flaws in the conduct of voting and the tabulation of results.

According to Mumba, these alleged irregularities significantly compromised the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.

Speaking on behalf of the appellant, lawyer Justine Dzonzi stated that the Supreme Court will first consider the substantive appeal.

Dzonzi added that after hearing the appeal, the court will decide whether to deliver its judgment immediately, reserve the ruling for a later date, or issue further procedural directions.
