MEC PREPARED FOR SMOOTH, CREDIBLE, TRANSPARENT BY-ELECTIONS

Acting Chief Elections Officer responsible for operations at the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Hastings Bota, has assured the public that the Commission is fully prepared to conduct smooth, credible and transparent by-elections across the country.

Bota made the remarks during the opening of a two-day Training of Trainers workshop held at Mponela in Dowa District, where electoral officials gathered to strengthen their readiness ahead of the polls.

He emphasized that the Commission understands the importance of thoroughly preparing its personnel, stressing that elections demand accuracy, proper coordination and strict adherence to established procedures.

According to Bota, the training is part of MEC’s broader strategy to ensure that all officers are well-equipped with the knowledge and skills required to manage the electoral process professionally and efficiently.

Linthembwe Ward aspiring shadow councillor Blessings Chaguza commended MEC for its commitment to following laid down procedures in the preparations for the by-elections. He said such efforts demonstrate the Commission’s dedication to transparency and accountability.

Chaguza further expressed confidence that continued stakeholder engagement and proper training of election officials would contribute to credible outcomes in the upcoming polls.

The training session brought together facilitators from MEC headquarters, alongside regional and district officers, all working collectively to reinforce capacity and ensure the successful delivery of the by-elections.
