Gertrude Mutharika has expressed satisfaction with the growing commitment from organisations, companies, and individuals toward the Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust, highlighting a positive wave of support that is translating pledges into meaningful action.
Speaking at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, the First Lady commended stakeholders for honoring their commitments made during the launch of the Trust’s 2026–2030 strategic plan. The occasion marked a significant milestone as Simuyi Holdings fulfilled its pledge by handing over K50 million.
The BEAM Trust’s strategic plan, unveiled on 27 February, has already begun yielding tangible results, with various stakeholders stepping forward to support its mission.
This reflects growing confidence in the Trust’s vision of improving livelihoods and promoting environmental and social well-being across Malawi.
Chairperson of the BEAM Trust, Dingiswayo Jere, emphasized that the timely support is crucial, particularly as the Trust is actively distributing relief food items to vulnerable communities nationwide. This assistance is helping address immediate needs while reinforcing long-term resilience.
From the private sector, Benny Simuyi, Chairperson of Simuyi Holdings, stated that the contribution reflects a broader commitment to investing in Malawi’s future. His remarks underscore the importance of corporate responsibility in national development efforts.
Beyond the financial donation, the company has also provided 600 bags of maize flour and pledged an additional 600, demonstrating a practical and humanitarian approach to supporting communities facing food insecurity.
Further commitments include the purchase of a minibus for the Trust to enhance its operational capacity, as well as plans to establish a sanitary pads manufacturing initiative. This initiative is particularly significant in supporting the girl child by promoting dignity, health, and continued access to education.
Overall, the collaboration between the BEAM Trust and its partners illustrates the power of collective action. Under the leadership and advocacy of the First Lady, such initiatives are driving meaningful change and strengthening the foundation for a more inclusive and supportive society in Malawi.
