PRESIDENT CHAKWERA LAUNCHES MALAWI RURAL ELECTRIFICATION PROGRAMME (MAREP PHASE 9) AT JOHO TRADING CENTRE

In a significant step towards ensuring rural areas have access to electricity, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera visited Joho Trading Centre in Traditional Authority Nsanama, Machinga District, to officially launch the Malawi Rural Electrification Programme (MAREP Phase 9).

The launch was met with enthusiasm and smiles from the local community, who are hopeful that the connection of their area to the national grid will accelerate socioeconomic development.

The initiative aims to transform rural communities by providing reliable and sustainable electricity, enhancing opportunities for education, healthcare, and local businesses.

Minister of Energy, Ibrahim Matola, highlighted the extensive reach of the programme, stating that 460 trading centres across the country will be connected with electricity through MAREP Phase 9. This expansive effort underscores the government’s commitment to bridging the energy gap and fostering equitable development.
