MUTHARIKA ECHOES CHAKWERA’S CALL TO REJECT VOTE-BUYING

Peter Mutharika, the leader of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), has echoed President Lazarus Chakwera’s recent call for delegates to reject leaders who attempt to buy votes. Speaking at a party event, Mutharika emphasized that while aspirants may offer money in exchange for votes, delegates should accept the money but refrain from voting for those candidates.

Mutharika’s remarks come at a crucial time as the DPP gears up for its internal elections. He stressed the importance of electing leaders based on merit and commitment rather than financial incentives. “If they give you money, take it, but do not let it influence your vote,” Mutharika advised.

This statement aligns with President Chakwera’s earlier sentiments, where he urged Malawians to resist the temptation of selling their votes, highlighting that such practices undermine the integrity of the democratic process.

Mutharika’s appeal to delegates reflects a broader concern within Malawi’s political landscape, where vote-buying has become a persistent issue. He called on the party members to prioritize the nation’s future by choosing leaders who are dedicated to serving the people, rather than those who rely on money to secure positions.
