PRESIDENT CHAKWERA CALLS FOR SWIFT ACTION AND PATRIOTISM AT DYNAMIC LEADERS FORUM

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has urged Malawian citizens to move with speed and embrace a hardworking spirit for the nation to move forward.

In his keynote address during the 7th Conference for Dynamic Leaders and Gatekeepers Forum in Lilongwe, President Chakwera said Malawians should sacrifice themselves for patriotism to bring change for national transformation.

He said the culture of slowness, which has infiltrated government departments, is slowly delaying progress in Malawi.

“We have to move with speed as a nation where everyone must operate as a gatekeeper for a better Malawi,” Chakwera said.

He mentioned, for example, the slowness of the procurement system in the country, saying it delays the progress of most projects.

“The procurement system should work with speed so that we should always be on time when implementing different projects,” he added.

During a presentation titled “The Cost of Rebuilding the Nation,” Executive Chairman for Dynamic Leaders and Gatekeepers Forum Rev. Dr. Zac Kawalala said Malawi needs patriots who can stand firm for national development.

“If we focus on patriotism, we will make Malawi better and achieve the Malawi2063 national agenda,” Kawalala said.

He urged Malawians to emulate good examples of Malawian heroes such as Rev. John Chilembwe, former President Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Chakufwa Chihana, and former President Prof. Bingu Wa Mutharika, who had sacrificed certain situations for national transformational change.

Rev. Kawalala further said the problem in Malawi, including Capital Hill, is resistance to change.

Director General for Malawi School of Government Prof. Asyatu Chiweza said embracing a transformative culture goes beyond adapting to new technology, systems, governance, leadership, among others.

She said collective efforts and a spirit of hard work will truly transform Malawi.

In attendance at the conference included Vice President Rt. Hon. Dr. Michael Usi, cabinet ministers, and representatives from government institutions and non-governmental organizations.

The 2024 Conference for Dynamic Leaders and Gatekeepers Forum is held under the theme “The Rising of Patriots for Change in Malawi: Counting the Cost and Rebuilding the Nation.”
