Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) have accredited 116 Civil Society Organization (CSOs) to conduct Civic and Voter education for the 2025 General Elections.
According to a public notice the Truth Malawi has seen, the Commission issued a call for application for accreditation to Civil Society Organizations.
“The Commission is hereby informing all electoral stakeholders and the public that after thorough evaluation of the application received, the following 116 organizations have been accredited to conduct Civic and Voter education”, reads part of the notice.
Among the accredited organizations are Association of People with Albinism in Malawi (APAM), Active Girls Initiative Centre, Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM), Ifumbo Youth Organizations, Malawi Economic Justice Network (MEJN), Umunthu Plus, Oxfam Malawi, Muslim Association of Malawi (MAM) and Youth Net and Counseling Organization (YONECO).
MEC indicated that the accreditation is subject to the organization signing to abide by the Code of Conduct issued by the Commission in accordance with section 21 (D) of the Malawi Electoral Commission Act.
MEC is expecting issue accredited certificates to the organizations during the launch of the the general elections to be held in Lilongwe on 2nd August, 2024.
Under Section 21(B) of the Malawi Electoral Commission Act, the Commission is mandated to accredit individuals and organisations to conduct Voter education.
