In a meeting held this evening at the Chikoko-bay State Lodge, President Lazarus Chakwera has committed to addressing several challenges faced by vendors in their business operations. The meeting, which brought together vendors from the eastern region, highlighted a range of issues affecting their livelihoods.
President Chakwera acknowledged the concerns raised by the vendors, who articulated their struggles with accessing the National Economic Empowerment Fund Limited (NEEF), high-interest rates, inadequate market infrastructure, and the need for emergency funding to reinvigorate their businesses following significant losses attributed to various challenges, including a recent dry spell.
The President assured the vendors that his administration is dedicated to creating a more favorable business environment.
“We understand the vital role vendors play in our economy, and we are committed to ensuring you have the support you need to thrive,” Chakwera stated.
He emphasized that steps would be taken to simplify the process for accessing NEEF, aiming to make funds more readily available to those in need. Additionally, Chakwera noted that the government is considering measures to reduce interest rates and provide immediate financial assistance to vendors who have been adversely affected by recent economic disruptions.
Market renovations also featured prominently in the discussion, with the President promising to prioritize infrastructure improvements to create safer and more efficient trading environments.
“We will work closely with local authorities to ensure that markets are upgraded and maintained to meet your needs,” Chakwera assured.
The President’s pledges were met with optimism from the vendors, who expressed hope that these initiatives would alleviate some of their burdens and help restore their businesses. The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of collaboration between the government and the vendors, aiming to foster economic resilience and growth in the region.
As the government moves forward with these plans, the vendors remain hopeful that the promised support will be promptly and effectively implemented, enabling them to overcome current challenges and secure a more stable future for their businesses.
