Vice President Michael Bizwick Usi attended the 40th-day memorial mass at Nsipe Catholic Ground in Ntcheu District today, commemorating the late Saulos Chilima, who served as the Vice President of the Republic of Malawi until his untimely death.
The somber ceremony drew a diverse crowd, with attendees from various sectors of society, reflecting the widespread respect and admiration for Chilima. Among the notable figures present were Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda, Secretary in the Office of the Vice President Lucky Sikwese, and several senior government officials. Traditional and religious leaders also joined the gathering, underscoring the profound impact of Chilima’s passing.
During the service, Inkosi Ya Makosi Gomani V delivered a poignant speech, calling for peace to prevail in the country despite the ongoing chaotic atmosphere. He expressed deep sorrow and disbelief at the loss of Chilima, emphasizing the need for unity and calm during these turbulent times.

Joshua Varela, representing Chilima’s family, echoed the sentiments of grief and loss. He highlighted the family’s ongoing heartache over Chilima’s death and made a fervent plea against the dissemination of false information regarding the circumstances surrounding it. Varela urged the nation to focus on development and patriotism, honoring Chilima’s legacy by prioritizing the country’s progress.
