President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera underscored the critical need for the fair and equal distribution of resources and loans to benefit all Malawians during the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) One Hundred Billion Kwacha Loan Disbursements celebration at Balaka Stadium on Thursday.
In his address, President Chakwera stressed that relief and loans must be allocated equitably, ensuring that every citizen, irrespective of political affiliations or regional backgrounds, shares in the nation’s progress.
“Promoting wealth creation, job opportunities, and food security are paramount to achieving self-reliance in Malawi,” President Chakwera said. “Our administration is committed to breaking down barriers that hinder the well-being of Malawians through a unified effort against poverty.”
The President assured the nation of ongoing and additional initiatives aimed at uplifting lives and reducing poverty, highlighting the importance of inclusive benefits from NEEF programs.
Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Simplex Chithyola Banda, lauded President Chakwera for his visionary leadership and determination in establishing NEEF. Banda noted that NEEF’s loan provisions reflect the government’s dedication to offering financial support to beneficiaries across the country.
“Since NEEF’s inception, the government has created numerous direct employment opportunities for Malawians and significantly improved the livelihoods of farmers,” Banda stated.
Jephta Mtema, Board Chairperson of NEEF, expressed his gratitude for the launch of the second phase of NEEF disbursements, describing it as a significant milestone in the program’s history. He commended President Chakwera for revitalizing NEEF and for his steadfast support, which has enabled the program to benefit individuals in all regions, including rural and underserved areas.
Eisenhower Mkaka, Secretary General of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), also praised President Chakwera’s leadership, emphasizing the necessity of equitable NEEF loan distribution to positively impact lives.
Member of Parliament for Balaka West, Bertha Ndebele, acknowledged the President’s commitment to fair loan distribution regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or region. Ndebele highlighted the positive effects of NEEF loans on women and youth, urging the program to also consider the elderly and disabled in its implementation.
Traditional Authority Nsanama expressed appreciation for President Chakwera’s unwavering dedication to supporting Malawians’ livelihoods through NEEF and other transformative programs.
The celebration at Balaka Stadium marked a pivotal moment in Malawi’s journey towards economic empowerment and poverty alleviation, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and prosperous society.
