Minister of Tourism, Vera Kamtukule, on Tuesday joined the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Kamtukule made the announcement during a press briefing held at the MCP headquarters in Lilongwe.
She said she made the decision to join MCP following consultations.
The Tourism Minister said she does not regret leaving UTM.
She clarified that her move to MCP was not motivated by a desire to secure her ministerial position, as ministerial appointments are the prerogative of the president.
MCP Secretary General, Eisenhower Mkaka, said the MCP leadership under President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera is attracting members from other political parties.
UTM Secretary General, Patricia Kaliyati, said Kamtukule was not an active member of the party. Political analysts have advised UTM to address the challenges within the party immediately.
