President Lazarus Chakwera recently held a significant meeting with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to discuss issues related to global peace and territorial integrity. The discussions highlighted mutual support and cooperation between Malawi and Ukraine.
President Chakwera shared the outcomes of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Ukraine has pledged more support in food security, modern farming technologies, and digitalization.” This pledge signifies Ukraine’s commitment to assist Malawi in addressing some of its critical challenges.
In his own post on X, Foreign Minister Kuleba expressed gratitude for Malawi’s stance against foreign armed aggression in Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of Malawi’s support and outlined Ukraine’s plans to reciprocate by aiding Malawi in its food security efforts.
“Ukraine is not only grateful; we also want to be helpful. We are aware of the severe impact of climate change on Malawi’s food security,” Kuleba stated. “Per President @ZelenskyyUa’s instructions, I conveyed that Ukraine has decided to assist Malawi as part of our ‘Grain from Ukraine’ program.”
The “Grain from Ukraine” program aims to provide essential grain supplies to countries facing food security issues, thereby fostering international solidarity and support. This initiative will play a crucial role in bolstering Malawi’s food security, especially in the face of climate change challenges.
The meeting between President Chakwera and Foreign Minister Kuleba marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Malawi and Ukraine. It underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges and promoting peace and stability.
