The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has ushered in a new era of leadership with the election of Catherine Gotani Hara as its First Deputy President. Hara secured the position after a closely contested race, defeating prominent figures such as Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba.

In another significant outcome, Richard Chimwendo Banda was elected as the new Secretary General, overcoming competition from Simplex Chithyola Banda.

The newly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) includes:
- Treasurer General: John Paul
- Legal Advisor: George Kazipatike
- Director of Economic Affairs: Henry Mumba
- Director of Women Affairs: Jean Sendeza
- Director of Public Relations: Sam Kawale
- Director of Elections: Elias Chakwera
- Publicity Secretary: Jessie Kabwila
These new leaders join President Lazarus Chakwera and Director of Recruitment Madalitso Kazombo, who were both elected unopposed earlier.
In an interview with the truth, Catherine Gotani Hara expressed her commitment to working hard to secure the party’s success in the 2025 tripartite elections. Meanwhile, Richard Chimwendo Banda thanked his supporters and promised to deliver results for the party.
