CHAKWERA ARRIVES IN BEIJING FOR 2024 FOCAC SUMMIT

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has arrived in Beijing to participate in the 2024 Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a pivotal event aimed at strengthening the partnership between African nations and China. Malawi’s delegation, led by President Chakwera, is focused on consolidating cooperation with China and expediting the implementation of key economic, trade, and infrastructural initiatives.

One of the highlights of the summit will be a bilateral meeting between President Chakwera and His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China. This meeting is expected to further solidify the ties between Malawi and China, particularly in areas that are critical to Malawi’s development agenda.

“We are here to not only strengthen our existing partnership with China but also to explore new avenues of cooperation that align with our national development strategy,” stated President Chakwera upon his arrival.

“Our focus will be on deepening collaboration with China and engaging stakeholders in the transport and ICT sectors, as these areas are vital to our goal of achieving sustainable and meaningful development.”

The Malawian delegation will also seek to enhance its collaboration with other key stakeholders, ensuring that the country maximizes the opportunities presented by the FOCAC Summit. The engagements are expected to build on ongoing projects while opening doors for new initiatives that will contribute to the country’s economic growth.

As Malawi continues to navigate its path towards sustainable development, the partnership with China, underpinned by the ATM (Agriculture, Trade, and Manufacturing) strategy, remains a cornerstone of the nation’s efforts to drive meaningful progress and uplift the lives of its citizens.
