Member of Parliament Yona Adadawiza was praised in the August House on Thursday, 19th September 2024, for his persistent efforts to pressure the government into rehabilitating the Rumphi-Nyika road. Several MPs, including Leader of the House Richard Chimwendo Banda, commended Adadawiza’s dedication to improving infrastructure for the benefit of the people in the northern region.
During the session, Adadawiza raised concerns to the Minister of Transport and Public Works regarding key areas along the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Chikwawa-Euthini road that require urgent attention, particularly during the rainy season when sections of the road become impassable.
“I am very concerned to see that the contractor working on the Nyika-Chikwawa Bembe section, PLEM, has left the site due to unpaid government fees,” Adadawiza said. He urged the government to expedite payments to allow the contractor to resume work and prevent further delays.
The MP also highlighted that in 2020, K1.9 billion was allocated for maintaining hotspot areas along the road, but the contractor was diverted from the project, leaving the work incomplete. He warned that if the government fails to take action, he will revisit the issue in Parliament in November.
Adadawiza’s consistent advocacy for road infrastructure development in the northern region has earned him widespread recognition among his fellow MPs, as he continues to push for better transportation networks that serve the needs of local communities.
