President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to actively participate in the ongoing voter registration process conducted by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC). In a national address, President Chakwera emphasized the importance of voting as a fundamental democratic right, particularly for citizens who have reached the age of 18 and possess a National Identity Card.
The president urged political, traditional, and religious leaders to mobilize their communities and raise awareness about the significance of voter registration. He stressed that participating in the electoral process is key to strengthening democracy in Malawi as the country prepares for the upcoming General Election.
“Voting is not just a right, but a responsibility for every eligible citizen,” Chakwera said, calling on all Malawians to ensure their voices are heard by registering to vote.
The president also commended MEC for ensuring that the necessary materials for voter registration are adequately supplied to districts where the process has commenced. He assured the nation that the government is committed to supporting a smooth and transparent electoral process, which is vital for maintaining the country’s democratic values.
