UTM’s National Director of Youth, Penjani Kalua, has decided not to run for the party’s presidential candidacy at the upcoming UTM convention. Kalua explained that he made this decision following advice from other youth directorate members, who encouraged him to focus on his current role as National Youth Director.
Kalua confirmed that he would retain his position as National Youth Director at the elective conference. He expressed confidence that UTM would nominate the best candidate for the 2025 elections.
Kalua, joined by all regional youth directors and Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala, urged youth across the country to register in large numbers during the second phase of voter registration, set to begin on November 9, 2024.
“Every UTM member has a responsibility to mobilize people for voter registration,” Kalua stated, adding that the youth directorate has set targets for voter registration across all regions to ensure strong youth support for UTM’s candidate in the 2025 elections.
The regional youth directors accompanying Kalua confirmed that they had encouraged him to remain in his current role, emphasizing that Kalua’s focus on energizing and engaging youth in politics is crucial.
