President Lazarus Chakwera has expressed optimism about the outcomes of his official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), emphasizing its potential to drive Malawi’s developmental goals.
Speaking at Kamuzu International Airport (KIA) before departing for Abu Dhabi on Thursday, President Chakwera underscored the significance of the visit, which runs until Sunday, 8th December 2024.
“This initiative will catalyze and contribute to the realization of the government’s developmental agenda,” the President assured.
The visit will see President Chakwera engage in high-level talks with His Royal Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, focusing on strategic partnerships. Key discussions will center on enhancing intergovernmental cooperation, particularly in the supply of petroleum products.
Additionally, the President is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with other top UAE officials to strengthen economic and technical ties between the two nations.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that Malawi and the UAE maintain robust diplomatic relations, spanning economic collaboration, investment protection, avoidance of double taxation, labor exchange, and bilateral air services agreements.
Accompanying the President on his journey was First Lady Madame Monica Chakwera. A host of government dignitaries, including Vice President Dr. Michael Usi, Agriculture Minister Sam Dalitso Kawale, Unity and Local Government Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda, Lands Minister Deus Gumba, and Dr. Lucky Sikwese, Secretary in the Office of the Vice President, witnessed his departure.
President Chakwera and the First Lady are set to return on Sunday through KIA.
