President Lazarus Chakwera has urged the newly appointed Minister of Labour, Vitumbiko Mumba, to work with dedication and integrity in his new role. Speaking on Friday during Mumba’s swearing-in ceremony and oath of allegiance in Mzuzu, Chakwera emphasized that cabinet appointments are a call to service, not personal recognition.
“There will be some people who will tell you that your appointment is well deserved, but do not take that to your heart. There are also some who will whisper behind your back that your appointment is not well deserved. Do not take that to your heart,” Chakwera said. “The most important thing is for you to understand that your appointment to cabinet is a call to service.”
Chakwera reminded Mumba that Malawians are looking up to him to deliver in his new capacity.

In his response, Mumba expressed humility and gratitude for the appointment, acknowledging the challenges ahead.
“I am humbled by this opportunity to serve. I will need God’s guidance in this position as well as support from fellow cabinet ministers and all Malawians,” Mumba said in an interview.
Mumba, an engineer by profession, was appointed by Chakwera on Wednesday following the resignation of his predecessor, Agness NyaLongwe.
