Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani Hara has assured residents of Mzuzu that the government will soon provide relief items to those in need.
However, she has urged local leaders to ensure fair distribution, warning against favoritism.
“Leaders must support all those in need, rather than personalizing items,” she emphasized, noting that some prioritize their families while others suffer.
Gotani Hara also addressed concerns over maize availability, stating that she has engaged the Minister of Agriculture to ensure that Admarc depots are stocked. She called for integrity at Admarc, citing cases where buyers receive only 8kg of maize despite paying for 10kg.
Additionally, she cautioned businesspersons against deliberately inflating prices to undermine President Lazarus Chakwera’s administration.
