Eight out of 16 Super League of Malawi (SULOM) clubs have nominated Acting Vice President Ronald Chiwaula for the substantive position ahead of the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on March 1 in Mangochi.
The AGM will not only address key league matters but also pave the way for elections to fill the vacant vice presidency, which has remained open since Gilbert Mitawa was elevated to SULOM President following Fleetwood Haiya’s election as Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President.
Chiwaula, who has been serving in an acting capacity, has received backing from clubs including Silver Strikers, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, Mighty Mukuru Wanderers (Noma), Mighty Wakawaka Tigers, Blue Eagles, Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos, Mzuzu City Hammers, and Karonga United.
With his past experience as General Secretary for Civil Service United and his tenure as a SULOM Executive Member, Chiwaula’s candidacy appears strong. However, it remains to be seen whether he will officially contest for the position or face any challengers in the upcoming elections.
