CHIRADZULU SECONDARY SCHOOL TO REOPEN; BALAKA STUDENTS SENT HOME OVER UNREST

The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has confirmed that Chiradzulu Secondary School will reopen on February 17, 2025.

The school had been closed due to student vandalism, which caused extensive damage to windows, learning materials, classrooms, and nearby vehicles.

According to the Ministry’s spokesperson, Mphatso Nkuonera, parents were required to contribute between 40,000 and 60,000 kwacha per student to cover repair costs.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has also ordered Form 4 students at Balaka Secondary School to return home and report back on February 14, 2025, accompanied by their parents.

The decision follows an incident in which male students were found guilty of bullying a Form 1 student. After the school administration disciplined three students, they allegedly mobilized others to boycott classes. Additionally, students vandalized electrical cables, causing power outages.

The Ministry has directed that students return with their parents to discuss damage costs and necessary repairs.
