Renowned media practitioner Wisdom Chimgwede has won the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary elections for the Kasungu Municipality constituency.
Chimgwede was declared the winner on Sunday after securing 614 votes, defeating Muhabi Chivunga, who received 181 votes, and Heese Nyangu, who got 13 votes.
With this victory, Chimgwede will represent the MCP in the Kasungu Municipality constituency during the general elections scheduled for September 16, 2025.
Celebrations erupted after the announcement, with delegates, supporters, and fellow candidates joining in the jubilation. In a show of unity, Chivunga and Nyangu congratulated Chimgwede with handshakes and hugs, pledging their support to ensure the MCP’s success in the upcoming elections.
The MCP began holding primary elections on February 14, 2025, in constituencies without sitting Members of Parliament.
