The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties has registered three new political parties, bringing the total number of registered parties in Malawi to 23.
The newly registered parties are the Patriotic Citizen Party (PCP), Solidarity Alliance (SA), and Anyamata Atsikana Azimayi (AAA). According to Registrar Kizito Tenthani, the parties were officially registered on March 20, 2025, after submitting applications in July and November 2024.
Tenthani emphasized that his office will ensure all parties have functioning offices as required by law. “I will be visiting each of the 20 political parties to verify that they have operational offices,” he stated.
The registration of new parties comes as Malawi prepares for general elections in September, with most parties currently holding primary elections in various constituencies.
