Malawi Freedom Fighter (MFF) has accused activist Edward Kambanje of spreading false information regarding their recent meeting with Minister of Transport Jacob Hara at the Parliament building in Lilongwe.
In an interview on Friday, MFF dismissed reports published by Sapitwa Online, which claimed that the meeting on the progress of the Makanjira Road project in Mangochi yielded no results.
Responding to the allegations, MFF Director Professor Kinka Makoloni stated that the meeting was productive, with the minister providing assurances about the project’s progress.
“The minister assured us that he will visit Makanjira on April 5, 2025, to provide updates on when the project will officially commence,” said Makoloni.
He further revealed that in preparation for the visit, the Mangochi District Council has invited Traditional Authority Makanjira for discussions.
“Our Traditional Authority Makanjira is meeting with officials from the Mangochi District Council today to finalize preparations for the minister’s visit,” he added.
MFF member Stack Chimalizeni expressed optimism about the project, saying the minister’s engagement is a step forward. He urged Makanjira communities to trust MFF’s efforts to push for the road’s construction.
“Some activists are trying to undermine our efforts, but we believe our discussions with the minister will soon yield positive results,” Chimalizeni said.
President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s administration had earlier committed to commencing the Makanjira Road project after securing funds from the United Arab Emirates.
