Presidential Advisor on Religious Affairs, Reverend Brian Kamwendo, has described President Lazarus Chakwera’s engagement with the Church of Central African Presbyterian (CCAP) General Assembly as vital for promoting unity, peace, and tolerance ahead of this year’s general elections.
Speaking after the meeting at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe, Reverend Kamwendo highlighted President Chakwera’s firm stance against political violence and his commitment to ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
CCAP General Assembly Moderator, Reverend Biswick Nkhoma, echoed the call for unity and tolerance to prevent political unrest during the elections. He also noted that President Chakwera expressed concern over the country’s climate challenges, urging Malawians to adopt winter cropping to mitigate the risk of hunger.
Reverend Nkhoma explained that the assembly sought the audience with the President to express gratitude for his support during the church’s centenary celebrations last year. He further assured the President of the church’s continued collaboration in promoting peace ahead of the polls.
The engagement brought together dignitaries from the CCAP’s Nkhoma, Livingstonia, and Blantyre synods, as well as representatives from CCAP branches in Zambia and Zimbabwe.
