CHAKWERA URGES INVESTMENT IN TOURISM AT MALAWI EXPO

President Lazarus Chakwera has emphasized the need to prioritize investment in Malawi’s tourism sector, describing it as a key driver of economic growth and opportunity.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2025 Malawi International Tourism Expo (MITE) on Thursday at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe, Chakwera highlighted the importance of the country’s Agriculture, Tourism, Mining, and Manufacturing (ATMM) strategy in revitalizing the economy.

He noted that the ATMM approach presents Malawi as one of the safest and most attractive destinations for global investment.

The President encouraged international delegates attending the expo to explore the vast opportunities available in these key sectors.

Chakwera also pointed to Malawi’s rich mineral resources including gold, rare earth sand, and the world’s largest deposit of newly discovered rutile as evidence of the country’s untapped potential.

To boost tourism, the President announced ongoing efforts to ease international travel to Malawi, including opening up the airspace and waiving visa requirements for nearly 100 countries.
