CHAKWERA HAILS NURSES, REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR HEALTH SECTOR

President Lazarus Chakwera has praised the vital role that nurses and midwives play in delivering healthcare services across Malawi.

Speaking at the 2025 International Nurses Day commemoration held at Nkhwazi Admarc Ground in Mchinji District, President Chakwera highlighted their contribution to saving lives, preventing diseases, and responding to health emergencies nationwide.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening the health sector, including the mass recruitment and promotion of healthcare personnel.

Minister of Health Khumbize Chiponda Kandodo emphasized that International Nurses Day is a celebration of the critical work nurses do in improving public health. She also urged all nurses and midwives to maintain professionalism and adhere to legal and ethical standards in service delivery.

Meanwhile, Shouts Simeza, President of the National Organisation of Nurses and Midwives (NONM), called for increased investment in the health sector, noting that nurses are key drivers of the country’s economic development.
