The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has released a statement commemorating the country’s 61st Independence Anniversary, highlighting the progress made under President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s leadership.
MCP spokesperson Dr. Jessie Kabwila described the 61-year journey as a reflection of the party’s steadfast commitment to freedom and self-governance, which it championed in 1964.
Dr. Kabwila praised President Chakwera’s “visionary leadership,” noting that in just five years, he has delivered notable achievements despite facing numerous developmental challenges. She called on Malawians to celebrate this year’s Independence Day with pride and optimism as the nation looks ahead to the September 16 presidential election.
The MCP also dismissed any links to recent protests, asserting that those involved were driven by personal motives and had no affiliation with the party. Kabwila urged opposition parties to stop engaging in smear campaigns or bribing people to join demonstrations aimed at discrediting the President.
Reaffirming its support for President Chakwera’s re-election bid, the MCP emphasized the widespread confidence Malawians have in his vision for a better future.
