POLICE TOLD TO STAY NEUTRAL DURING ELECTION CAMPAIGNS – KAYIRA

Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration), Noel Kayira, has urged all police officers to remain politically neutral and uphold professionalism during the upcoming election campaign period.

Speaking during the official launch of the campaign period for the September 16 General Election, Kayira emphasized that all political parties and citizens must receive equal treatment to ensure a peaceful and fair campaign.

“It won’t be proper for parties to be calling the IG to ask to hold a rally. Officers-in-charge must give equal treatment to everyone. Let’s maintain political neutrality,” he stated.

Kayira instructed all officers-in-charge (OCs) across the country to enforce the law without favoritism and ensure the safety and security of all citizens throughout the campaign.

He also revealed that the Malawi Police Service has conducted a national risk assessment and identified high-risk areas including Karonga Boma, Lilongwe, and Mponela, where additional security measures will be taken.
