CHAKWERA HAILS RBM AT 60 AS PILLAR OF ECONOMIC GROWTH

President Lazarus Chakwera has described the 60th anniversary of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM) as a national celebration, underscoring the institution’s vital role in driving the country’s economic development.

Speaking at the official opening of the RBM Economic Symposium in Lilongwe, President Chakwera commended the central bank for being a catalyst for national progress over the past six decades. He urged financial experts to take bold and innovative steps to stabilise the Kwacha and resolve Malawi’s persistent foreign exchange challenges.

“RBM has been at the heart of our economic journey, but there is still more to do to secure a stable and prosperous future,” said Chakwera.

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Simplex Chithyola Banda, reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting RBM initiatives, stressing the bank’s critical role in fostering sustainable economic development.

RBM Governor Dr. McDonald Mafuta Mwale noted that the symposium serves as a platform for stakeholders to reflect on the institution’s achievements and chart the way forward.

The event is being held under the theme “Promoting Stability and Sustainable Development in Malawi.”
