CHAKWERA PLEDGES ECONOMIC BOOST FOR NKHOTAKOTA THROUGH M5 ROAD

President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera has assured the people of Nkhotakota that trade and economic activity in the district will grow significantly once the rehabilitation of the M5 lakeshore road is completed.

Speaking at Dwangwa Trading Centre during a whistle-stop tour ahead of the September 16 General Election, Chakwera acknowledged the poor state of the road and pledged his government’s commitment to building a durable one.

“I have seen how bad the road is, and I can assure you that my government is committed to constructing a very durable road,” said Chakwera.

The President also expressed concern over the lasting impact of flash floods in Dwangwa, which have hindered the recovery of people and businesses. He pledged to take action to address the damage.

Earlier, aspirant Member of Parliament Dorothy Chikonje told the President that the area is facing food shortages due to a poor harvest caused by floods. She requested food relief, access to clean water, and improved school infrastructure.

Senior Chief Kanyenda thanked the President for the M5 road project, describing it as crucial for the district’s economic growth. He also praised the government’s achievements in the health and education sectors and assured Chakwera of his people’s support.

The chief further vowed to resist any cartels attempting to undermine the President’s efforts to protect the sugar industry and ensure petroleum availability.
