MCP REAFFIRMS PARTNERSHIP WITH VP USI AHEAD OF 2025 POLLS

The governing Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has pledged to continue working with Vice President Michael Usi until the next general elections.

MCP Publicity Secretary Jessie Kabwila said President Lazarus Chakwera maintains a functional working relationship with Usi despite recent political tensions.

“There are no grievances between the President and his Vice. They have worked together in leading the country, and the President will continue to delegate responsibilities to Usi until election day,” Kabwila said.

She also urged all political parties to avoid smear campaigns and uphold peace during the campaign period.

The statement follows a recent thaw in relations between the MCP and Usi’s political movement after weeks of trading accusations at public rallies. At one rally, Usi alleged widespread corruption within the MCP-led administration, remarks that had fueled speculation about divisions in government.
