CHAKWERA VOWS TO REVAMP AGRICULTURE FOR EXPORT GROWTH

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to revitalizing Malawi’s agriculture sector to boost exports and generate much-needed foreign exchange.

Speaking at Nachiola 1 Trading Center in Traditional Authority Chimutu’s area, Lilongwe East Constituency, Chakwera said his administration has already begun reviving the sector, which he claimed was neglected by previous governments.

“It is sad that the previous governments killed the agriculture sector, which is a hub of our economy. We have just started revamping it, and I want to assure you that the best is yet to come once I am given another mandate come September 16th,” Chakwera said.

He highlighted that tobacco farmers have enjoyed better prices this year compared to previous years, expressing optimism that improved farmer incomes would help reduce poverty levels.

Chakwera further assured farmers that, through the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF), they will have access to modern farming equipment and encouraged them to form cooperatives.

Earlier, Homeland Security Minister and Lilongwe East aspiring MP, Ezekiel Ching’oma, praised Chakwera for development projects in the area, including modern roads, schools, and health centers. He urged residents to vote in large numbers on September 16, 2025, to allow continuity of development initiatives.
