JOYCE BANDA PROMISES CASH FOR WORK FUND

Former President of Malawi, Dr. Joyce Banda, has pledged to introduce a Cash for Work Project if she returns to government after the September 16 elections.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Songani, in the area of Senior Chief Malemia, Zomba, Dr. Banda said the initiative would enable rural communities to engage in development work such as road maintenance and earn daily wages.

“The aim is to help people earn money to support their households and to reduce poverty,” she said.

The People’s Party (PP) leader also promised to construct one million houses for the poor and elderly, noting that the project would provide proper shelter while creating jobs during construction.

Dr. Banda urged voters in Zomba Malosa to elect Edith Kachale Banda as Member of Parliament, saying she would spearhead development in the constituency. She further highlighted that the PP manifesto prioritizes agriculture, education, health, mining, and social protection programs, including the distribution of maize to vulnerable households.

George Mnesa, President of the Mafunde Party, who has formed an alliance with the PP, told the rally that his party joined forces with Dr. Banda because of her proven leadership between 2012 and 2014.

Edith Kachale Banda, the PP parliamentary candidate for Zomba Malosa, pledged to reopen irrigation schemes, upgrade Songani football field into a stadium, repair bridges damaged by Cyclone Freddy, rehabilitate roads, and empower women involved in village banking.
