Zomba District Council has confirmed that all preparations are complete for the official opening of the new Zomba Stadium by President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera on September 11, 2025.
Zomba City Council spokesperson Aubrey Moses said the facility is expected to become a major driver of economic activity in the city. He explained that the stadium will boost tourism and significantly improve annual revenue collections, which currently stand at less than K300 million.
“The stadium is not only about sports, but also about creating opportunities for growth. It will help nurture grassroots talent by exposing young players to elite levels of the game, inspiring them to develop and excel,” Moses said.
Local football lovers have also welcomed the development. Zomba-based enthusiast, described the opening as a milestone for the city, noting that the modern facility is capable of hosting high-profile matches and will serve as a new centre of attraction.
The inauguration of the stadium is widely seen as a boost to both the sporting and economic fortunes of Zomba, positioning the city as a key hub for sports and tourism in Malawi.
