Bishop Alfred Mateyu Chaima of the Catholic Diocese of Zomba has called on members of the Catholic Women Association (CWA) to deepen their faith by knowing, loving, and serving God in their daily lives.
He made the remarks at St. Anthony Thondwe Parish during celebrations marking the Feast of Mary, Mother of Jesus Christ, which was organized by the CWA under the theme: “Catholic Women on a Pilgrimage of Hope, Following the Life of Mary, Mother of Jesus.”
Bishop Chaima urged women to emulate the example of Mary by engaging in acts of mercy such as visiting the needy and supporting the vulnerable. He further encouraged them to be witnesses of faith not only within the church but also in their communities.
The Bishop also challenged the women to play a leading role in promoting education for their children, stressing that the future of the nation depends on the youth.
“I ask you, women, to know God, love Him, and serve Him in a visible and tangible way, just as Mary did,” said Bishop Chaima.
In her response, Christina Lakiyoni, Chairperson of the CWA in Zomba Diocese, thanked the Bishop for his message, describing it as powerful and inspiring. She pledged that members of the association would intensify acts of mercy as part of their service to God.
The event began with a procession from Thondwe Village Polytechnic to St. Anthony Community Day Secondary School and attracted nearly 5,000 women from all 20 parishes of the Diocese.
