MUTHARIKA PLEDGES INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has expressed gratitude to Malawians for re-electing him into office, pledging to support all regions of the country regardless of cultural differences.

Speaking during this year’s Mhlako wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival at Chonde Village in Mulanje, where he serves as the festival’s patron, President Mutharika said his re-election reflects the trust and confidence Malawians have in his leadership. He assured the nation that his administration will prioritize inclusive development across all four regions.

Quoting the words of Malawi’s founding president, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, Mutharika reminded citizens of the importance of unity: “Malawi is one nation with united people despite cultural diversity — there is no Tumbuka, no Chewa, no Lomwe, no Yao, no Sena.”

Addressing the gathering, the President also announced that the government has finalized discussions to import 200,000 metric tons of maize from Zambia to mitigate the country’s food shortage.

However, he expressed concern over reports that some local farmers and traders are hoarding maize to sell it at higher prices.

“Let us be patriotic and think about our fellow Malawians,” said Mutharika, adding that such practices undermine government efforts to stabilize food supply and pricing.
