Mineral resource experts in Malawi have commended President Arthur Peter Mutharika for announcing a ban on the exportation of unprocessed minerals, describing the move as a step toward maximizing the country’s economic potential.
Mineral expert Grain Malunga welcomed the decision, saying Malawi has the capacity to boost its economy by processing its mineral resources locally, thereby creating jobs and increasing their value.

“This move will be a game changer for Malawi’s industrialization. By processing our minerals locally, we can manufacture products such as car batteries and magnets, creating employment opportunities for our citizens,” said Malunga.
Another mineral expert, Marcel Chimwala, echoed similar sentiments, noting that exporting processed minerals would generate higher returns compared to selling raw materials, thus contributing significantly to Malawi’s economic growth.
President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika announced the ban during the swearing-in ceremony of Second Vice President Enock Chihana and two newly appointed ministers at Sanjika Palace in Blantyre.
