LILONGWE DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTS NEW CHAIRPERSON

Following general elections which were conducted in September this year, Lilongwe Distric Council has elected new chairperson.

Councillor Sekelani Kansikiri from Katope ward in Lilongwe, has been elected as a chairperson.

Kansikiri won with 32 votes, defeating Luciano Botoman, who got five votes, and Overton Kafansiyanji, who got one.The position of vice chairperson went to Witness Chadika of Demela ward.

” Am very happy that my fellow councillors have voted for me so that I can lead them for the period of two and half years”, he said.

He promised to work with the whole council as team to improve service delivery within the council.The council has 38 councillors but 37 took the oath because one of them had recently passed away.
