MINISTER URGES NRB TO BE PROFESSIONAL

In a move to restore public trust, the Minister of Homeland Security, Mr. Peter Mukhito, has directed staff of the National Registration Bureau (NRB) to serve all Malawians professionally, without political bias.

The Minister issued the directive during a briefing with NRB management at Capital Hill on Tuesday,12th November 2025, emphasizing that the ministry will allow the Bureau to operate freely.

“We, as the political arm in the ministry, will not interfere with the affairs of the NRB apart from providing guidance on policy matters,” stressed Mr. Mukhito.

“Every Malawian deserves to be served professionally and should have a national ID, regardless of their political affiliation,” Mr. Mukhito emphasized.

The Minister then urged NRB to build capacity of its staff, emphasizing that this is essential for achieving greater efficiency, productivity, and professionalism.

During the meeting, NRB Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Machika presented the Bureau’s current status, outlining both its achievements and the challenges it faces in providing services.

He also briefed the Minister on new innovations designed to improve service delivery for all citizens.

NRB is one of the departments under the Ministry of Homeland Security in Malawi.

The other departments are Malawi Police Service, Immigration and Citizenship Services, Prison Services, and Refugees.
