Lawmaker Mary Maulidi Khembo who represents Neno East Constituency has been elected as new chairperson of the parliamentary women caucus
During elections held yesterday at Parliament building in Lilongwe, Khembo will be deputized by Anne Chibwana.
Member of Parliament for Zomba Malosa Grace Kwelepeta was elected as Secretary while Member of Parliament for Lilongwe Masintha Juliana Kaduya as a Treasurer, Florence Khimbi,and Hon Maureen Namwali as members.
In her acceptance speech, Khembo thanked her fellow female parliamentarian for entrusting her with responsibility to lead them in the caucus.
“Let me thank all women parliamentarians for warmly voting for me . I promise to work according to the guidelines”, she said.
She also promised to work in line with the vission of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to make sure that the welfare of women are improved and take part in leadership positions across all sectors.
Out of 222 MPs elected in parliament during 2025 general elections, 49 are women.
