Apostle Clifford Kawinga has donated to Home of Hope orphanage where he was once raised during his childhood situated in Ntchinji district.
The donation was provided to support 700 children at the orphanage which is being managed by a 96-year-old Dr. Thomson Chipeta.
The donation and visit was part of Kawinga’s broader Hope-field Initiative, a program he describes as delivering “hope from the field”, a combination of spiritual encouragement and practical aid. “As a country, we are facing a hunger crisis,” Kawinga said, highlighting the urgency of food security in Malawi. While his past efforts focused primarily on food distribution, he emphasized that this initiative aims for sustainability.

On the day of his visit, he donated 200 bags of maize and 5 million kwacha to ensure the children have access to both nourishment and educational support.
Reflecting on his personal journey, Kawinga said losing his father at the age of six shaped his lifelong commitment to orphaned children. “I am a product of Home of Hope,” he said, quoting Psalm 68:5: “God is the Father of the fatherless.” His deep connection to the orphanage, combined with his faith, informed his decision to give back on such a meaningful scale.
The visit also unveiled a new agricultural initiative: the creation of 10 farmer clubs equipped with fertilizer to improve food security and promote self-sufficiency among local farmers.
Dr. Chipeta expressed profound gratitude, noting the timely impact of the donation. “We have about 700 children here. This contribution is a big relief for them,” he said. He recalled how small acts of generosity had helped him as a child, inspiring him to instill similar values in others.
Chipeta also revealed that proceeds from a recent honorary degree celebration would go toward building a new boys’ hostel, reinforcing the orphanage’s commitment to education and infrastructure.
For beneficiaries, the initiative represents more than charity, it is a path to transformation. Emily Sambani, a local farmer, said access to fertilizer and land support would enhance her agricultural productivity, potentially improving livelihoods.
Traditional Authority Zulu praised the program for blending spiritual encouragement with practical assistance, urging participants to maximize the resources provided to ensure strong harvests.
Through his return to the Home of Hope, Apostle Kawinga exemplifies how personal experience, faith, and generosity can intersect to create lasting impact, turning the story of an orphan into one of a benefactor who nurtures hope in others.
