Authorities have arrested several suspects in connection with the killing of Dr. Victoria Bobe, a medical officer at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital (QECH) who was shot dead by suspected robbers at her home in Chigumula Township, Blantyre.
Minister of Homeland Security Peter Mukhitho confirmed the arrests both in Parliament and in an interview with The Truth Publication, describing the development as significant progress in the ongoing investigation.
He commended police officers for what he called their “pace and focus” in handling the case.
“We are making progress, and a comprehensive report is expected soon,” Mukhitho said, while declining to reveal the identities of those taken into custody, stressing that doing so could jeopardize active inquiries.
Dr. Bobe, 33, was a gynaecologist at QECH and also lectured at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences.
Her killing has shocked the medical community and the nation, prompting renewed calls for strengthened security measures and swift justice.
Authorities say investigations remain active, with more details expected as the case unfolds.
