One of the candidates in the 2025 elections, Smart Swira, has praised the administration of Peter Mutharika for its swift response to the recent fuel shortages and the growing threat of hunger.
Swira noted that the fuel crisis had deeply affected the daily lives of Malawians, disrupting transport systems and hampering various economic activities across the country.
He said the shortage not only inconvenienced citizens but also placed an unexpected strain on businesses that rely heavily on fuel to operate efficiently.
According to Swira, the government’s quick action to restore fuel supplies has helped stabilise the situation and brought relief to many households and industries.
He further commended the administration for taking early steps to address food insecurity, a challenge that has been looming over several communities.
Swira explained that decisive intervention was necessary to prevent the hunger situation from escalating into a national emergency.
However, he also cautioned the Mutharika government to avoid repeating the mistakes that previously angered Malawians and contributed to its removal from power.
He stressed that Malawians today are more alert and outspoken, and any missteps by the government could easily trigger public dissatisfaction once again.
