Minister of Defence and DPP legislator for Luchenza Municipality, Chimwemwe Chipungu, has launched a K20 million vocational skills initiative aimed at boosting grassroots entrepreneurship across the constituency’s five wards.
The programme, unveiled at Luchenza Catholic Primary School, targets unemployed residents with a focus on empowering women through practical, market-ready training.
Chipungu said the investment is intended to address persistent unemployment by equipping communities with skills that can be converted into viable small businesses.
He described the initiative as a targeted economic intervention designed to create sustainable income streams in areas where formal employment opportunities remain limited.
Entrepreneur and business trainer Kondwani Kachamba, who is partnering on the project, said the training will focus on helping participants develop sustainable microenterprises.
Kachamba noted that the programme aims to strengthen local value chains by promoting entrepreneurship that responds to community needs and market demand.
Group Village Head Lolo welcomed the initiative, calling the K20 million rollout a timely and much-needed boost for communities seeking economic resilience.
He urged residents to embrace the training fully, saying active participation will be crucial in ensuring long-term impact and improved livelihoods.
